Corey D. Bizzell can best be described as a quintessential sales and marketing professional. Having began his career in 1996 with humble beginnings as a Sales Coordinator at the Regal University Hotel Durham, he has held different positions within the tourism industry such as Area SMERFE Sales Manager for Meristar Hotels and Resorts, Inc. Director of Sales Homewood Suites Hotel, and Corporate Meeting Planner Sandler and Recht Communications. In 2002 Corey joined the staff of the Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau and currently serves as the Director of Group Sales & Services.
His position as Director of DCVB’s Group Sales & Services Division carries responsibility for helping to attract and secure many of the more than 4,000 conventions and meetings held in Durham each year while supervising the efforts of the sales and services staff in Durham’s various target markets such as corporate, associations, group tour, and sports. Additionally, Corey serves as lead liaison for the DCVB as it works hand-in-hand with Durham Convention Center staff and directors of sales from Durham’s lodging properties, four conference centers, sports and meeting venues, and other service providers, fostering collaboration through leads/bids, email updates, roundtables, and annual co-op promotions.
Bizzell has been active with the Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Carolinas Chapter for the past 5 years serving on various committees. In March 2006, Bizzell received the coveted Nancy B. Holder Scholarship from MPI-Carolinas Chapter for his service and commitment to MPI. Corey is also a member of the Association Executives of North Carolina, Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International, National Association of Sports Commissions, Christian Meetings and Convention Associations, National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners, 100 Black Men of America, Inc. and Religious Conference Management Association.
