Community Outreach Volunteer Opportunities

Greetings MPI-CC Members-

The Community Outreach Committee was thrilled at the response to our Kickoff at the recent Charlotte chapter meeting. Thank you to those of you who volunteered to help with our fledging partnership last month.

For those of you who could not attend, MPI-CC has given new life to the Community Outreach Committee. We have restructured our efforts and are working to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This group’s mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma as well as to improve the quality of life for the patients and families who are battling these blood cancers. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has chapters in both North and South Carolina . . . another great reason to partner with them. We represent the same geographic constituencies.

Our relationship with LLS has many sides. We want to raise awareness; raise money; and, offer our MPI-CC members an opportunity to volunteer in their local communities. To that end, LLS has great volunteer opportunities right around the door. During September and October, LLS offers their “Light The Night Walk”. It is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's nationwide evening Walk to build awareness of blood cancers and raise funds for cures. Walkers carry illuminated balloons-white for survivors and red for supporters-to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer.

Volunteer opportunities range from helping in local LLS offices to setting up or breaking down the walk site to helping on the evening of the walk itself. An opportunity listing is attached. More information is available on the LLS website, www.lightthenight.org
